Reflections -- Sylvia & Jerry

Dear Friends and Family,

December 3, 2000

The end of another year is in sight. How the time flew! We hope that the year 2000 has been a great year for you. It has been for us. We are as anxious to tell you about some of our many millennium year adventures as we are to hear how you fared during the year. While we’re waiting for news from you, we’ll start off by wishing you the Merriest Christmas and the Happiest New Year ever and then tell you what we did.
The biggest adventure was our wedding on the 13th of May. It was a great social event as well as a major milestone in a long, ever-stronger relationship. We were able to share the day with a lot of friends and relatives. We appreciated those that made the long trip from the States on the big day -- twin-sister Joyce with husband Kenn and friends Al and Sheila Moore. In fact, it was more than just one day; it was a three-day weekend celebration and two different wedding ceremonies. We married in the city Registry Office late in the morning and at the Menwith Hill Chapel mid-afternoon. Even the weather cooperated, as it was the only string of three lovely days this entire year. As tour guide for the weekend, we honeymooned at Wedgwood in Stoke-on-Trent.
We’ve also made a second, very big a commitment toward our future by deciding on Fayetteville, Arkansas as our new and, hopefully, permanent hometown. We are preparing to make the move in May of next year, just less than six months from now. Hopefully this pans out better than previously plans for relocating to North Carolina and Oregon. We’d have liked to call this retirement, but the market hasn’t been kind. I bought technology a day late and a dollar short while my bargain basement value stocks found bottom only after I had them well in hand. I’ll probably try my hand at a simple computing job for a year or so until we get our bearings. We’re really looking forward to 250-plus days of sunshine.
Locally, our big project for the year, besides the wedding, has been helping Sylvia’s parents move from the old homestead in the country to a smaller, more modern home in a small village a few miles away. We were able find a nice bungalow at a good price that had been empty for several years. So once again we took on the task of some major decorating and updating. In early October, all was ready and Mike and Vi are now in their “new” home. I’ve taken the roller skates off the table saw legs. We look forward to spending Christmas with them in their new home.
We’ve also had a couple of lovely trips. In February, we spent five days with Mother in Minnesota and a warm, lovely week with Al and Sheila in Florida. Enjoyed some time with Seth and Cinnamon and an evening with Joe and Mary. In September, we had another lovely five days with Mother and my sisters plus a few extra days in the Boston area and a few more back in the Washington DC area. Got to say Hi to Carl and Maria, Scott and Mary, and Dave and Donna. We also squeezed in shorter trips to Spain, Scotland, and Arkansas.
Sylvia is working at the Nat West Bank halftime and I still struggle with ManTech. When not working, I’m either in the shop, “playing” with the computer, or looking for a boot-sale bargain. Sylvia would be at the gym, doing needlepoint, or sporting about town in her little red convertible.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
